The Village Chef by Meals on Wheels celebrated the official opening of their new Hornsby site.
On Wednesday 27th August, the launch was presided over by CEO, Alex Kane and there were by the Member for Hornsby, Mr James Wallace and the Mayor of Hornsby, Warren Waddell.
Guests were treated to some light refreshments and a tour of the fabulous new facility. Alex paid particular tribute to the builder Paul Robson, whose team went above and beyond to create a site that is not only inviting for volunteers and clients but also has flexibility to possibly grow in the future. Alex noted the shock he and The Village Chef’s Hornsby team felt when they learned in February this year that their previous site had been sold and they needed to find new premises. It was initially very stressful but has turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The pickup and drop-off area is under cover and there is now an area where volunteers can also sit and enjoy a cuppa or light refreshments. And the packing area in the rear of the building is suitably large that it may even be able to house a kitchen one day in the future.
Mr Wallace spoke about the proud history of Meals on Wheels and they vital work they do in the community. And Mr Waddell spoke about how Hornsby Council is working hard to meet the needs of the area’s ageing population.
The guests contributed to making this a significant milestone for The Village Chef by Meals on Wheels.
