Like the ABC TV show “Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds”, the George Insutite is running an intergenerational research program in preschools across Sydney.
The experiment fosters intergenerational connection, studying the positive mental health and cognitive effects of relationships between children and the elderly. At the same time, it is a tool to help prevent dementia.
There are many causes of dementia, and scientists know that a strong factor in developing the disease is inactivity, loneliness, and lac of social connection. This is where the George Institute hopes to reduce and combat the degenerative condition through there intergenerational program
Spaces are open for adults aged 65 and over to take part at local preschools. Participating will involve 2-hour weekly sessions over 20 weeks where preschoolers and older adults will socialise together in a range of fun activities. Local locations include preschools in Galston, Terrey Hills, Dee Why, Manly, Narrabeen, and East Lindfield.
