New community initiative called Rewind is providing a welcoming space for people living with dementia and their carers.
Held at The Heights Church in Hornsby Heights, Rewind is a non-denominational church service designed to accommodate the needs of those living with dementia and allow spiritual access.
Led by retired aged-care chaplain Leanne Hill, Rewind draws on her years of experience supporting residents at BaptistCare Bethshan Gardens Aged Care Home in Wyee.
Leanne knows of the impact familiarity can have on individuals with dementia, and by continuing access to familiar hymns, scripture, and spiritual life, Rewind and Leanne hope to create a calming and meaningful experiences.
Each 45-minute service includes hymns, Bible readings, prayer, and an encouraging message from selected guest speakers who have experience caring for or working alongside those living with dementia. Every attendee receives a booklet with hymn lyrics, a Bible passage and a prayer.
Guest speakers include caregivers, chaplains, and professionals familiar with dementia support. The service concludes with morning tea, giving carers and attendees a chance to connect, socialise, and build friendships.
Rewind is a service free of charge. Each first Wednesday of the month at 10am at The Heights Church, 110a Galston Road, Hornsby Heights.
Donations of welcome to maintain the service and refreshments.
