Ku-ring-gai Council is inviting residents to help celebrate 100 years of the St Ives Showground by sharing memories, stories, and keepsakes that capture its rich history.
Since its establishment in 1926, the Showground has been a beloved community landmark. Local are being encouraged to contribute and share old photographs, newspaper clippings, personal stories, or memorabilia connected to the site.
“What began as a meeting place for farmers and growers has become a much-loved destination for events, families, and wildlife,” said Mayor Christine Kay said.
The Showground’s origins date back to 1920, when the St Ives Agricultural and Horticultural Association began showcasing local produce. Six years later, the group was granted 53 hectares of Crown land in St Ives to establish what became the Northern Suburbs Showground.
During World War II, the site was used by the Australian Defence Forces Ku-ring-gai Regiment.
