When the Hornsby Advocate was closed, as part of the wider closure of all Cumberland Newspapers in metropolitan Sydney, the residents of Hornsby experienced the great loss of its own community-based newspaper.
The establishment of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Post (The Post) came to our rescue and re-established community connections through a monthly magazine. It was a courageous move given that print publications were generally regarded as no longer viable.
I was delighted to attend the launch of The Post in the grounds of Loreto College Normanhurst where I first met its publisher, Tina Brown.
It may come as no surprise that I have been an avid reader of local newspapers from my youth. I welcomed the success of the Post as it grew its readership and outreach to much of the north side of Sydney. It’s now essential reading for a broad and diverse community and keeps them informed about what’s going on.
I wish The Post continued success in building community connections and its ability to give each of us a sense of belonging to a very special part of Sydney.
