North Sydney Council is asking people with disability, carers, service providers and residents to help shape its next Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) for 2026–2030.
The plan will set practical steps to improve inclusion and accessibility across the area so people with disability can participate fully in community life and access Council services and facilities.
Mayor Zoe Baker said Council wants to hear directly from those with lived experience and the wider community. “Tell us what’s working and what we can do better. Your experiences and ideas will guide our next steps so everyone feels welcome and included in North Sydney.”
A community survey is now open on Council’s Your Say website until Sunday 2 November. Respondents are asked to identify the biggest barriers to inclusion such as transport, communication or attitudes and nominate one priority action Council should take to improve accessibility.
Council will also run pop-up information stalls, along with in-person and virtual workshops for people with disability and other stakeholders. Accessibility supports will be available, including AUSLAN interpreters, hearing loops, captioning and Easy Read materials. For assistance or alternative formats, contact 9936 8100.
Under the Disability Inclusion Act 2014 (NSW), councils must deliver a DIAP every four years covering four focus areas: positive community attitudes and behaviours; liveable communities; meaningful employment; and equitable access to services. North Sydney’s current DIAP (2022–2026) has delivered upgrades to accessible infrastructure, inclusive events, staff training and employment pathways. The new plan aims to build on that progress.
