North Sydney’s unsung heroes have been recognised for their outstanding contributions at the 2025 North Sydney Community Awards, held at Sub Base Platypus.
The annual event celebrated residents whose volunteer work strengthens connections, protects the environment and inspires future generations.
Mayor Zoë Baker praised the winners, describing them as “shining examples of what it means to give back,” and noting their impact in building “a stronger, greener and more connected community”.
This year included the Community Builder Award, shared by Jacquelyn Wong, who created a thriving community garden at The Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability, and Christopher Milner, whose Men’s Chat group at Neutral Bay Community Centre supports men’s wellbeing.
The Eco Warrior Award went to Carol Skyring, co-founder of The Sydney Library of Things and the Fix-It Hub, which encourages locals to share, repair and reduce waste.
The Living Legend Award was presented jointly to Alex Wilson, President of the North Sydney RSL Sub Branch, recognised for his decades of service to veterans, and Lynne Cook, who has led bushcare at Balls Head Reserve since 1998.
Winners of the Trailblazer Award were Robert Frazer, who has inspired schools and community groups with his passion for native bees, and Jill Arkell, a founding volunteer with Lifeline Connect at Stanton Library.
The Next Generation Award recognised Mia Sinosic-Cass, a youth leader and financial literacy advocate, alongside Jackson Chan, a dedicated volunteer at the Northside Produce Market.
The awards coincided with a citizenship ceremony welcoming 30 new Australians, adding to the day’s celebration of community spirit and belonging.
