Glen Street Theatre is hosting the Pulitzer Prize winning play ‘Wit’ written by Margaret Edson.

The play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1999. ‘Wit’ tells the story of Vivian Bearing, a 50-year-old woman, in the height of her successful career. With a passion for poetry, Vivian is a fierce, highly respected academic who is told she has weeks to live.

‘Wit’ poses the question, “can we conquer death, our fear of it, by the way we choose to live our lives?” The play touches on our footing between our head and heart, and is not necessarily a play about death, but rather a play about life.

‘It encapsulates everything that is important,’ says Director Helen Tonkin. ‘It is about this woman facing death, and she reflects back on her life, but she learns how to accept to that death and recognise the importance of accepting human warmth and love.’

Along with being a Pulitzer Prize winner, ‘Wit’ is a text studied by Higher School Certificate students on the Advanced English Syllabus.

‘Wit’ is being presented by Clock and Spiel Productions, known for their popular hits Freud’s Last Session, Metamorphosis, and The Screwtape Letters. The performance will run at the Glen Street Theatre from the 29th of February to the 2nd of March.

The cast features Cheryl Ward as Vivian Bearing, Hannah Raven as Dr Jessica (Jason) Posner, Yannick Lawry as Harvey Kelekian/Mr Bearing, Hailey McQueen as Susie Monahan, Helen Tonkin as E.M. Ashford, and Matt Abotomy and Joseph Tanti as Lab Technicians and Clinical Fellows.
